Inferring macroscopic brain connectivity from EEG

There has been some recent interest in the idea that epilepsy results from changes (genetic or otherwise) in functional connectivity between brain regions rather than changes to dynamics within individual regions. As part of attempts to research this concept we have been trying to infer brain connectivity from EEG, in order to compare brain connectivity between humans with and without idiopathic generalised epilepsy. In this talk I would like to discuss our attempts at this and consider the problems that can arise and the appropriateness of different methods.
